RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Department of Chemistry within the Ray P. Authement College of Sciences, of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is seeking a biochemist to join its faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, externally funded research program in biochemistry, contribute to the curriculum by teaching biochemistry among other chemistry courses. We are seeking candidates having a strong record of publications, who will be active  and energetic researchers in their field, serve as dedicated mentors to student researchers, collaborate with colleagues in chemistry and biology among other sciences, and demonstrate institutional citizenship through active engagement at the department, college, university, community, and professional levels. Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and relevant research experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have some post-doctoral experience and are working in areas of biochemistry with industrial applications, or in areas of biochemistry related to energy acquisition or storage.

UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY:
The Department of Chemistry consists of ten faculty members with specialties in all of the major branches of chemistry (http://chemistry.louisiana.edu). Our faculty are actively engaged in research.  Over the past 5 years, each of our faculty published an average of 1.6 papers annually while attracting research funding from NIH, NSF and DoE among other federal and state agencies. The Department of Chemistry offers a B.S. degree that meets certification requirements of the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society, as well as a B.S. degree that is uncertified. Graduate programs consist of a M.S. degree in Industrial Chemistry and an interdisciplinary doctorate degree in Earth and Energy Sciences.  The College of Sciences includes six academic units including three nationally ranked doctoral programs in Biology, Computer Science and Mathematics (http://sciences.louisiana.edu).
